Who Is Garage Dad?

Garage Dad Guide is run by a family that has been wrenching on its own vehicles since 2005. Daily drivers, hand-me-down trucks, the teenager’s first car: if it sat in our driveway, we probably had the hood up on it at some point. We are not a big media company and we do not pretend to be a dealership service department. We are regular people who learned to do our own repairs to save money, keep our vehicles running longer, and understand what we are driving.

Along the way we have made plenty of mistakes, bought tools we did not need, and skipped tools we definitely did. This site is where we share what we have learned so you can skip some of the trial and error.

Our Mission

  • Make DIY repair approachable. Clear steps, honest difficulty ratings, and a heads-up when a job is better left to a pro.
  • Help you spend money wisely. Buy the right tool or part once instead of twice.
  • Stand up for your right to repair. You should be able to fix what you own, and we will keep you informed about the laws that affect that.

How We Pick Products

When we recommend a tool or part, here is what we go by:

  • We favor things we have used ourselves in our own garage. When we have not, we say so and explain what our recommendation is based on.
  • We look for quality and value that make sense for a home garage, not just the most expensive option.
  • We read the fine print: warranties, fitment, and what other owners report over time.
  • Nobody pays us to include a product, and an affiliate commission never decides what makes the list.
